Day 11 of 50

READING GUIDE:

• Read today's devotion below.
• During days 8-14 (at your own pace) read chapters 3 thru 6 from Joining Jesus on His Mission.
• After days 8-14, meet with your small group and follow the back-of-the-book discussion guide for SESSION 2.

1“And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.3 And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. 4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.” (Luke 9:1-6 ESV)

When Jesus sent out the twelve, do you think they had it all together? Do you think they knew everything they needed to know about doing ministry? Look up Luke 9 in your Bible, and then page through the following chapters. Jesus continued teaching MUCH! Jesus definitely wasn’t done equipping His disciples. But He didn’t wait for them to “know it all” before He sent them out. He gave them some training and got them out there.

Finke points out in chapter 4 that so many of us read multiple books on a subject matter and never doing anything about it. When it comes to living out Jesus’ mission, “by giving the mindset and practices a try, as best we can, even though imperfectly, we learn so much more than if we settle for reading about it.”

So you are in day 11 of this 50 day journey. Don’t wait until day 50 before you go out joining Jesus on His mission. What can you try today? And no worries about results. Jesus has all of that covered.
